Third Ward Monday Senior Golf League
The Third Warders Monday Senior Golf League was established in 2017 and plays Monday afternoons at Deerwood. The League President is Gerry 'Swi' Matecki assisted by Paul 'Bones' Borowiec (Secretary) and Matty Rusin (Treasurer).
AND WE'RE OFF - SEASON 9 HAS BEGUN!!
The weather was absolutely perfect - hard to recall a better opening Monday. And while the golf was not 'up to par', it was still a great opening day after a long, cold winter. As noted, scoring was not quite up to normal levels, which is usually the case in the early weeks of the season. Five teams did end up with 4 points (meaning 5 teams have yet to get on the board). One golfer who didn't have any early season yips was newcomer Dave Higgins, who shot a sparkling 38 on Fawn. Dave also led the way for lowest net score with a 32. Please refer to the 'Standings' section of this site for the complete standings after week 1.
As noted above, scoring was below normal, which can be attributed to early season rust (can't blame the course conditions, as the Deerwood Staff continues to do a fantastic job in making Deerwood one of the premier public courses in the area). Besides Dave Higgins shooting a 38, no other scores broke 40 (and a few hit the 60 level). Please refer to the 'Scores' section of this site for all the week 1 scores.
TWEETER WATCH - With the overall higher than normal scoring came an expected lack of birdies in week 1. Only 2 were posted, both by medalist Dave Higgins on Fawn (#5 & #7).
HOUSEKEEPING - Reminder, our league reserved tee times begin at 12:32 P.M. Every group must check in with the starter before teeing off. Also, groups should not get into the tee line until all players in the group are present at the tee box. Please also note that should a group wish to play a different 9, they will have to receive an approval from the starter of that 9 when checking in. No exceptions. One last item - there are still a few league participants who have not yet paid their 2025 league fee to Matty Rusin. Unless paid promptly, these individuals will be removed from our league roster and will not be eligible to play going forward - no exceptions.
So.... season nine has officially begun Let's hope that we continue to see weather like we had in week 1. Also, remember to support the Club - still the finest bar in town (with the coldest beer and the best prices). Sign the book, play the lucky pull tabs or the Queen of Hearts, or just simply enjoy a delicious cold beverage after a round of golf.
Next week we're on Buck. See you then.
